AVENUE INN BED and BREAKFAST – RECIPIENT OF THE BEDANDBREAKFAST.COM “BEST OF THE BEST” AWARD FOUR YEARS IN A ROW!
If you are looking for something different from a hotel experience where all of their rooms are the same, then you should try our New Orleans Garden District bed and breakfast without fear of losing all the contemporary amenities you’ve come to expect. Nestled among the centuries-old oaks on the famed St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line, this 1891 Thomas Sully mansion offers turn-of-the-century charm to match its historic location. Yet, we offer all of the important services and features of your favorite hotel. We are technologically up to date with free Wi-Fi, voice mail, and business center services.
And location? Just perfect! From the heart of the Uptown/Garden District, our guests need only minutes to reach the New Orleans French Quarter, Central Business District, Morial Convention Center, Tulane and Loyola Universities, Riverwalk shopping, St. Louis and Lafayette Cemeteries, the World War II Museum, Audubon Zoo, the Aquarium of the Americas, the Insectarium, and the Louisiana Superdome; all located in New Orleans, LA. Access to these destinations is easy via the streetcar that stops at the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast’s front door.
From our New Orleans bed and breakfast, take a casual stroll to antique shopping on Magazine Street, where you also will find specialty boutiques, fine bistros, and lively nightspots. Everyone asks about the streetcar that stops in front of our mansion home. Its been running in one form or another since 1835 and the current electric cars date back to the late 1890"s. It's $3.00 for an all day pass with unlimited riding on any streetcar or RTA city bus. You need exact change when you get on the car and conductor will give you a pass. A single ride is $1.25, also exact change. For seniors, a single ride is $.40, but many forgo this savings in lieu of the convenience of the all day pass and no change worries. Service is subject to change at anytime; traffic, the number of riders and other factors may effect the arrival time at your stop.
Currently, all of the street car lines are functioning. There is one new line still under construction which should be completed in the next 12 months. This will give our guests access to the eastern side of the French Quarter and in the neighborhoods beyond. The streetcars will, on average, pass in front of our mansion home about every 20 minutes during the day, but they are slower at night. We suggest a taxi home in the evenings. Here's some really good news about the streetcar system. They now offer a free app so you can track the location of an approaching streetcar!!! If you have a smart phone, go to WDSU Transit Tracker in the Apps Store and download it. You will be able to instantly find out how far away an approaching streetcar is from your location! We are happy to answer any questions about transportation that you may have for us.
Hope to see you here at the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast soon.
