Featuring a contemporary French menu using local ingredients, Chef John Besh has shown everyone that bringing a European influence to dishes inspired by his local roots can be a truly successful pairing.
Located in a historic French-Creole building from the 1800s with high ceilings, mahogany paneling, and original architecture, the feeling is one of relaxing grandeur. But While this is known to be a top-notch restaurant, don’t make assumptions. The atmosphere is far from snobby. The service is known to be exceptional. The waitstaff is knowledgeable about the menu, and go out of their way to make your dining experience both enjoyable and memorable. You may even chance upon an evening when Chef Besh is on the premises, and he is known to personally greet guests during their meals.
If you happen to dine at August when Foie Gras, Gnocci With Blue Crab and Black Truffles, the Marrow-crusted Filet, or Goat Cheese Cheesecake are offered, give them a try. But you really can’t go wrong with anything on this varied menu of perfection. The offerings do change regularly, meaning that each visit to the upscale eatery can be a new experience: each as gastronomically pleasing as the next!
Dinner is offered in several forms: an open-order option, Prixe-Fixe (with the price reflecting the year), or two options of pre-planned menus including a vegetarian option. Lunch is open-order only.
While a large variety of wine is offered, August is one of the few restaurants without a corkage fee, meaning you can bring your own wine to enjoy with dinner at no charge (it is polite to only bring wine that the restaurant does not offer). If you do choose to pair an ordered wine with your dinner, the waitstaff will be happy to offer a suggestion for the perfect pairing (consulting the sommelier when necessary).
August is open for lunch on weekdays from 11am to 2pm. Dinner is offered nightly between 5:30-10pm. Reservations are required for a table, but you can also opt to sit at the bar for a more casual, but still upscale, meal.
You can get to Restaurant August by taking the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar (which stops just outside our Garden District inn) all the way to Canal Street. From there, it’s just a short walk to the restaurant on 301 Tchoupitoulas Street. We will be happy to help you with reservations, directions, dish recommendations, or any other questions you may have concerning Restaurant August.
