Lately, we’ve been telling you about all the great things to do in NOLA during the Christmas Season… But what about AFTER Christmas? Less than a week after that magical day is what some might call the biggest celebration of the year, all around the world. It’s never too soon to consider a visit to the Crescent City for New Year’s, and Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast would love to have you with us to welcome in 2014!
New Orleans may be known, first and foremost, for our Mardi Gras Celebrations, however the New Year’s fun might just be a close second, and the prime location is in our renowned Bourbon Street area.
From North Rampart Street to the River, music will be playing (both live and recorded) in the bars, restaurants, and businesses throughout the French Quarter. You can even find great music right on Jackson Square.
For the final countdown, Jackson Square is, by far, the largest gathering of them all. And where New York’s Times Square has the New Year’s Ball that is dropped, NOLA does things our own way with our rise of the Fleur-de-lis on Jax Brewery Condominiums, peaking at the stroke of midnight, when musically-choreographed fireworks erupt over the river to signal the start of the New Year in style. Want a unique perspective of the light show? Book a Fireworks Cruise on the Creole Queen Paddlewheeler or the Steamboat Natchez!
Throughout the evening, the French Quarter’s “Baby New Year” stands guard on top of Jax Brewery, making sure that one and all have a great time!
Looking for something with a little less crowd and a little more exclusivity? There are several dinner celebrations to choose from where you can dress up, have a great meal and/or enjoy a great show, and perhaps celebrate in elegance:
- Bombay Club Restaurant and Martini Bistro – While also in the French Quarter, the restaurant/club offers something a little more exclusive than what’s happening outside with a four-course dinner, midnight champagne with party favors, and a live performance by Ingrid Lucia featuring jazz and swing favorites with a 1940’s feel. Enjoy a night of style for just $125 per person – reservations are required.
- The Riverview Room – Dinner, an open bar, live music, and great views can be found at Jackson Brewery’s end-of-year celebration. Black tie attire is encouraged.
- Tiptina’s – This great Uptown music venue (just 8 blocks from the Avenue Inn) offers a dinner/show with open bar featuring local music phenomenon Galactic spouting the best sounds of New Orleans, with funk/soul group Orgone paving their way.
What can make all this even better? Why, the Avenue Inn’s New Year’s Getaway Package, where you’ll be greeted to our home with a gift, map of the city, and streetcar passes for two ( unlimited riding for 3 days) so you can easily navigate town for an unforgettable year-end celebration!
New Year’s will be here before you know it, so make plans for a Gulf Coast getaway today and enjoy a unique end to 2013!
