Spirits Alive!

There are different forms of "spirits" on this earth, and we've got more of them than anyone else in America's most haunted city. Ever want to meet a real earthbound entity face to face? Enjoy things that go bump in the night? Whether fact or fiction, you'll have to be your own judge as you take a stroll through some of New Orleans' most sinister places. Prepare yourself for an urban adventure like no other.
The Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast has selected two award winning tours for your "Spirits Alive" weekend and combined them with a stay in our "spirited" Victorian mansion for the ultimate sensory experience:

The New Orleans Haunted History Ghost Tour explores the grim and ghastly deeds of the old French Quarter. Secret and mysterious, most of the strange events that are presented occurred a very long time ago. And yes, it's true! Ghosts and Spirits still haunt the legendary Vieux Carre (old village). Phantoms & Apparitions are believed to abound! Escape into the past as offbeat, theatrical New Orleans tour guides provide you with an eerie, chilling, yet fun-filled adventure! You'll visit sights of documented hauntings, ghosts, and spirits. View French Quarter residences where unbelievable events purportedly took place. You'll even visit a haunted bar along the way.

The New Orleans Cemetery History Tour is a daytime stroll into the legendary St. Louis Cemetery #1, New Orleans' oldest City of the Dead. You'll explore the cemetery and visit the tomb of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. Step back in time with this historically accurate and educational tour presented by experienced tour guides. This is a walking tour that combines details about some of the most fascinating elements of New Orleans' past - the history of the French Quarter, the oldest and most historic cemetery and the legend and witchcraft of New Orleans' Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau!

The "friendly" original owner reportedly visits the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast from time to time, according to Bed and Breakfast.com. World War II Museum Experience

Guests visiting us at our Mansion home always ask, "What is one of the best things to do in New Orleans?" Without hesitation, our answer is the World War II museum, just two miles from the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast via streetcar. Without question, anyone coming to our city should plan to spend 4-5 hours visiting this marvelous venue.

Renowned historian, author, and educator, Dr. Stephen Ambrose was the founding father of The National WWII Museum Foundation in New Orleans in 1991. It opened on June 6, 2000, and is the only museum in the United States that presents all of the amphibious invasions or "D-Days" of World War II, honoring the more than 16 million Americans who took part in this epic global conflict.

The National WWII Museum is located in New Orleans, Louisiana because it was here that Andrew Higgins designed and built the unique landing craft used in the amphibious invasions. The same landing craft which President Eisenhower gave credit for winning the war for the Allies. The Museum stands as our country's tribute to all those men and women who made the invasions in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific theaters successful. It presents their stories to an audience from around the world. It archives material for research and scholarship, and will inspire future generations to remember the lessons learned from the most complex military operation ever staged. This three day package includes:

  • A single queen accommodation with private bathroom, voicemail, Wi-Fi, cable TV, climate control, and modern room amenities
  • Continental breakfast for two in the formal dining room or on the Creole porch
  • Free off-street parking
  • Welcome gift on arrival and map of the city
  • Tickets for two adults to the museum, the 4-D Experience movie and the Final Mission
  • Passes for unlimited riding on the streetcar for two days to the Museum, the French Quarter, and all the exciting venues of the City

Rate for the three-night package is $289 per person plus tax, double occupancy*.

*Package is subject to availability; some holidays, special events and citywide convention dates may be excluded. Please ask for "package availability at the time of your call." Red Beans, Rice & Monday's So Nice

Book directly with us for a three-night-or-more stay. Include Monday in your schedule and it's free! Monday is the traditional Red Beans and Rice on the menu day, a practice customary in the early days of Creole life in Louisiana so the cooks of the house had time away from the kitchen to do laundry. Put on the fire in the morning, the beans were seasoned with ham bones and fat left over from Sunday dinner. The dish simmered all day and was served for supper on Mondays. And that tradition is still observed today in hundreds of New Orleans restaurants. At our New Orleans Bed and Breakfast, you can take time away from your day-to-day routine and put extra cash in your pocket so you can enjoy a plate of red beans and rice at one our local eateries.

The "Monday night accommodation is free" offer is subject to promotion availability and some restrictions apply. May not be available during special events, holidays and convention periods. Must be asked for and applied at the time of booking and may not be combined with any other packages, discounts or promotions. The rate discount is based on the rack rates of the room. Voo Doo, Hou Doo, You Doo!

Bored with your mundane day-to-day schedule? Why not put a little magic into your life?

New Orleans is famous for its association with Voo Doo, Things Haunted, Magic and Mystery. With this unique package, you'll experience a tour of the French Quarter that will leave you scratching your head and thinking, "Can this be real?" The Voo Doo or Haunted History walking tours featured by the Haunted History tour company offer you an insight into what many have called the most haunted city in America. Add to that, Joe's own brand of Hou Do magic (as in Houdini)- either close-up prestidigitation at breakfast or a few minutes in our circa 1891 parlor for a "congress of cabalistic phenomenon" as the street barkers used to say in the old days. Joe will teach (You Do) a few simple illusions that can be mastered with only a little practice. Put all of this and a fabulous weekend in New Orleans together and you've got the cure for "life mundane." And the rates are magic as well!

The package includes:

  • Welcome gift & map of the city

Town 'n' Country

Back in the 1800s along the river and in the big cities, it was customary for the wealthy to have homes in more than one location. This afforded business partners who were often family members, the ability to travel between their plantation locations and the city. While in the city, they marketed their cotton or sugar cane and generally remained there during the off-season. Travel was not a matter of a few hours, but a few days or weeks. And so these families found it more convenient to have dual residency.

Now you can enjoy the same Town and Country experience with our package by the same name. Here's what's included:

The package is subject to availability; some holidays, special events, and citywide convention dates may be excluded. Please ask for "package availability at the time of your call." Bed 'n' Beignet Vacation

A beignet (pronounced /ben_yeh/ in English), is a pastry made from deep-fried dough, much like a doughnut, sprinkled with confectioner's sugar, or in some places, frostings. In France, beignet is an umbrella term for a large variety of pastries made from deep-fried dough with fruit filling. The French styled beignet in the United States is universally associated with the city of New Orleans where they are served by the thousands daily in the French Quarter. It is also the official state doughnut of Louisiana.

There are few visitors to the Crescent City that do not seek out the experience of eating a plate of beignets washed down with a mug of Cafe au Lait or a cup of chicory coffee. Although it is traditional to go to the French Market area in the Quarter for the treat, guests at the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast have a unique advantage. Next door to the Inn, serving authentic beignets and coffee daily is New Orleans Coffee and Beignet Company®

Now, you can book a room at the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast, walk next door and enjoy a plate or sack of hot fresh beignets. And we've made it easier than ever with this two day package:

  • Boutique Queen accommodation with private bathroom, Continental Breakfast, Free Wi-Fi, Free Parking, snacks and bottled water 24/7 and contemporary amenities.
  • Gift cards for two mornings of beignets and coffee for two persons (one plate of beignets and two mugs of Cafe au Lait each day)
  • Streetcar passes for two days of unlimited riding for two persons to the French Quarter and all the exciting venues in New Orleans
  • Welcome gift and a city map

Rate for the package is $179 per person, double occupancy*.

* The package is subject to availability; some holidays, special events and citywide convention dates may be excluded. Please ask for "package availability at the time of your call." Reservations are based on availability. The offer may not be used in conjunction with any other coupon or package or deposit ticket. Tax is 13%+1.00 per day. You must visit the coffee house to enjoy the beignets and coffee. Gift cards may not be redeemed for cash and some restrictions may apply.
