Catch Some New Orleans Soul at the Blues and BBQ Festival

The south is truly known for its soul.  Memphis is commonly referred to as the birthplace of soul, but thanks to legendary R&B artist Allen Toussaint, we like to think that New Orleans is certainly a sister-city!  What began in 2006 as an offshoot the NOLA Jazz Festival with more performers than attendees, the Blues and BBQ Festival celebrate the large presence and history of Southern Soul in the Crescent City, and has grown into its own with an award-winning lineup of legendary blues performers, and the best barbecue that can be found in the area.  Avenue Inn invites you to become a part of this growing history when you vacation with us between October 12-14, 2012!

In 2006, the NOLA Jazz & Heritage Foundation hosted the first iteration of this quickly-growing festival.  Now in it’s seventh year, the event just keeps growing and growing.  This year, the event is proud to present some legendary names in blues music on two stages at either end of Lafayette Square, including:

  • Friday evening performers: Luther Kent & Trick Bag, and Chris Thomas King
  • Saturday performers: J. Monque’D, Little Freddie King, Johnny Sansone, Sugar Blue, Ernie Vincent, Li’l Buck Sinegal, The Bo-Keys with Otis Clay, and Keb Mo
  • Sunday performers: Amedee Frederick, “The Creole Blues Man,” Spencer Bohren, Larry Burton, Miss Lavelle White, Richard Smith, Ironing Board Sam, Latimore, and Clarence Carter anchors the entire event!

But this city is known as much for its food as its music, so the festival will also present so many vendors of BBQ, local favorites, and vegetarian options that you won’t be able to visit them all!  Top that off with Abita Beer as the official sponsor, and you have the makings for one fun and tasty weekend!

Also featured at during the Festival is the Oral History Stage where the performers discuss their music and careers, the Arts Market, autograph tent, and more!

So, let’s recap:
