New Orleans Oyster Fest Coming June 3-4, 2017

Oysters reign at the annual New Orleans Oyster Fest, scheduled for June 3-4, 2017. The annual fest is a full-out celebration of the humble mollusk, and a chance to enjoy the music, crafts, and culture of our fair city.

The fest, which has free admittance and takes place in Woldenberg Park, shines a spotlight on the farmers, the benefits of our gulf coast oysters, and the continuing need for coastal restoration to preserve this important Louisiana industry. But for the legions of fans who frequent this weekend, it’s all about eating.

This year’s lineup of food vendors is a who’s who of New Orleans top restaurants and seafood houses. Look for notables including Drago’s, Acme Oyster House, The Bourbon House, Jacques-Imo’s Café and others—more than thirty restaurants in all—serving specialties such as charbroiled oysters, oyster po-boys, oyster shooters, oyster dressing stuffed mushrooms, and fried oyster tacos.

To accompany this food feast, favorite local musicians will take to the stage both days with performances by Flow Tribe, Bag of Donuts, Luke Winslow King, Bonerama, and others. Also on tap are cooking demos, craft booths, and contests.

Check out the Largest Oyster Contest to see just how huge these beauties can grow . Last year’s winner weighed a whopping 2 pounds, twelve ounces and measured 8 inches by 4.24 inches. For anyone who has tried prying open an oyster, you know there’s an art to it. The P & J Shucking Contest pits the talents of oystermen and is always a fun and amazing display of skill. If you just can’t get enough of oysters, you can test your tummy at the oyster eating contest.
