Not far from Avenue Inn, in the Irish Channel neighborhood, is where you’ll find Achafalaya—and what a find it is! Blending comfort and elegance, Achafalaya and turns out delicious food rooted in Cajun and Creole with wonderful contemporary twists.
Set in a charming home in a residential area, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, the kind of place where you can stop for a quick cocktail, a stylish dinner or late-night snack, and one of the best casual brunches in all of New Orleans. Weather permitting, there is also a delightful patio where pooches are welcome.
Achafalya is a NOLA favorite for brunch because of it’s stand-out creations. Among the entrees is low country Eggs Benedict with red bean and rice cake, collard greens, alligator sausage, and gumbo gravy. Duck hash combines duck confit with blackberries, mangoes, hollandaise, and bacon vinaigrette. On the sweeter side, a Bananas Foster waffle is downright decadent. You just can’t go wrong—all the dishes are over-the-top delicious.
Visit for dinner, and you’ll find more creative options. The turtle and alligator sausage gumbo is a real treat. So are other entrees, such as a marvelous shrimp and grits with Andouille sausage; and black drum served with a medley of seafood, sweet corn, and stewed okra and tomatoes. If you like to end your meal on a sweet note, you’ll find plenty to love here, including a delicious sweet potato bread pudding with spiced crème Anglaise, salted bourbon and sage caramel, and toasted marshmallow.
