While Americans have been avid rum drinkers since our founding, it took until 1995 before any company in the continental United States actually made it. That changed when Old New Orleans Rum Distillery procured its distiller’s license. Fast-forward twenty years, and the company is now considered the country’s premier producer of quality rum.
Key to Old New Orleans Rum’s distinctive flavor are the quality ingredients it uses, starting with locally-sourced Louisiana sugar cane. Expertly crafted, the rum is then aged in charred American white oak casks that once held fine bourbons, whiskies, and Sherries, resulting in top-quality, smooth tasting rum.
Crystal Rum is the heart of the Old New Orleans Rum Distillery line, smooth with notes of molasses and perfect for making traditional island cocktails. Amber is a 140-150 proof blend of Crystal Rum that is aged in whiskey barrels for anywhere from three to seven years. A nod to NOLA roots, Cajun Spice Rum is steeped with baking spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, and others—for a super flavorful, yet delicate taste. If you prefer sipping your rum neat, try the signature King Creole 20th Anniversary Edition Rum. It has the color of fine-brushed leather with hints of vanilla and burnt orange, and a refined taste that echoes that of a single malt scotch.
Visitors can take a behind-the scenes, 45-minute tour of the distillery that includes a welcome cocktail and tasting of the various products. Tours run daily, and the company provides complimentary shuttle service from the French Quarter.
