Mark your calendars, all you oyster fans, because the annual two-day New Orleans Oyster Fest is coming June 2-3, 2018.
The free event is a love fest to our favorite mollusk, and some of the Big Easy’s best restaurants will be strutting their oyster specialties. The festival is held to honor and promote Louisiana’s local oyster farmers, as well as the restaurateurs who use them, and to help raise funds for coastal restoration so vital for the industry.
Woldenberg Park provides an idyllic setting for two days of music, crafts, dining—and the always popular contests. Saturday features the P & J Oyster Shucking Contest, and is a remarkable display of masters at work. Sunday’s Acme Oyster Easting Contest brings pros of a whole different sort testing their skills.
No matter how you enjoy your oysters, you’ll find some delicious choices throughout the fest. Drago’s famous charbroiled oysters, fried oyster tacos from Royal House Oyster Bar, Buffalo Oyster Sliders at Superior Seafood, and Oyster Shooters from Bourbon House are just a few of the savory selections. In-between eating, you can chill out listening to some great music, and peruse the many craft vendors, selling oyster-themed art, jewelry, accessories, and other clever items.
